Get to Know the Teacher...
Greetings and welcome to Fifth Grade! My name is Amber McCormick and I will be leading your child’s journey through the last year here at Ridgeview. Before we go any further, I’d like to take a brief moment to tell you a little bit about myself.
I was born and raised in a small Midwestern town in Northeastern Indiana called Kendallville. In high school, I spent most of my free time on the stage—whether it be theater or show choir. I traveled throughout the entire Midwest, singing my heart out. After graduating, I attended Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana, and earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Elementary Education in December 2002.
With my degree in hand, I packed up and relocated to central Florida. I took my first teaching position teaching sixth grade Science at Discovery Academy in Lake Alfred, Florida. After two years at the middle school, I took the jump to elementary school and joined the amazingly talented family here at Ridgeview, teaching third grade. After four years in third grade, I achieved my National Board Teacher’s Certification in November 2008 and felt a need to challenge myself just a tad more. As a result, I joined the fifth grade team last year to expand my repertoire of knowledge and have loved every minute of it. I am also looking forward to starting my Master’s of Education program in educational leadership to become a principal soon.
Outside of the classroom, I work seasonally as a Cast Member at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. I am a Merchandise Core Trainer, responsible for training new Cast Members to work in the various merchandise locations and to expose them to a little Disney “pixie dust” in the process. In my free time (which is very limited!), I enjoy reading, going to the theater, and spending time with family and friends. I am also a shopper, which I attribute to genetics.
I am looking forward to a fantastic year together. If you have any questions or comments, don’t hesitate to contact me, as “communication is the key to success.”
Working with you,
Amber McCormick,NBCT
